SHOWER PUMP FAQS
- How do I fix a shower pump with no pressure?
- Nine times out of ten it’s an airlock. Switch the pump off at the spur, open the shower fully to let the system drain and push the air through, then switch back on. If the pressure doesn’t return, the flow switch or impeller has likely failed and needs an engineer — don’t leave the pump running dry trying to force it.
- Why won’t my shower pump turn off?
- A flow switch has stuck or a non-return valve is passing water back through, so the pump never senses that you’ve stopped. Switch it off at the fused spur straight away — a pump left running against a closed outlet will overheat and fail. It’s a common, repairable fault.
- Why is my shower pump so noisy?
- Some noise is normal, but a new loud rattle or growl usually means worn bearings. A pump mounted hard against the floor or rigid pipework also transmits noise through the house; re-mounting it on a proper base with flexible hoses often makes a dramatic difference.
- Is it worth repairing a shower pump or should I replace it?
- Airlocks, flow switches, seals and hoses are all worth repairing. The deciding factor is the motor and bearings — on an older pump that’s roaring and leaking, a like-for-like replacement is usually the better value, and we’ll tell you honestly which you’re looking at.
- What size shower pump do I need?
- It depends on whether your system is positive or negative head, how many outlets it feeds, and how much boost you want. Getting this wrong is the main cause of noisy, short-lived pumps, so we check your system before recommending anything.
