Powerflush. For central heating health
What is Powerflushing?
Powerflushing is the process of pushing water at high pressure through the central heating system to remove the sludge that builds up over time.
A Powerflush can improve your entire central heating system, with improved heat distribution.
Imagine heating your radiators from a boiler; the boiler has to heat the water it sends to the radiators. Now imaging the radiators were half the size they are - they would give off 50% less heat.
When sludge builds up in the system, it makes cold patches that don't heat up. That reduces the efficiency of the radiators and the system as a whole.
That can mean the boiler is heating more water to send to the radiators because it takes longer for the thermostat to switch off.
That means that a powerflush can even help you use less energy!

Sludge in the system - The Powerflush fix
The central heating system runs throughout your home, and over time, deposits like limescale you find in a kettle can build up in the system. These build-ups cause cold patches or even blockages. Other types of sludge or debris will build up too, which makes the system less efficient.
You may see signs that there is an issue when radiators have cold patches at the bottom caused by sludge build-up.
How can a Powerflush help?
A Powerflush will push all the mineral deposits and other debris out of the system at high pressure, using cleaning chemicals like a descaler to clean and improve the system's resilience in the future.
As we pump water through the system, it forces out the debris. Similar to a pressure washer for your central heating system.
A Powerflush helps with the central heating issues that you can't see, but become evident with cold patches in rads, or a noisy boiler. The boiler will be working harder and more often, but the radiators won't be generating as much heat.
A Clean system is an efficient one
Cleaning a central heating system is vital to its health, and Powerflushing is a popular cleaning method because of the comprehensive clean it provides.
The benefits of a clean central heating system:
- lower household bills
- energy savings due to improved efficiency
- more even heat distribution throughout the home
- extended system life
- increased system reliability

Q. Do I have to dig up the floor?
A. The Saniflo macerator's function is to pump waste and water away, it should not usually be necessary to dig up the floor to lay the discharge pipework. It is possible to run the pipework from a low level to a higher level e.g. from a basement to ground floor level, or from 1st floor up into a roofspace and then join to a soil stack.
Q. What types of WC's are suitable?
A. A Saniflo macerator can only be fitted with a WC which is BS EN 33 or 37 Horizontal outlet
Q. Can waste be discharged into a manhole?
A. A Saniflo macerator is usually discharged into a soil and vent pipe or discharge stack. However, you can connect directly into the sewer at invert level.
The discharge pipe should discharge into the gulley in the direction of flow. Entry can be through the wall of the manhole. which should be sealed to ensure a watertight joint. Pipes should be suitable for use under ground and protected against frost and also against subsidance from the effect of vehicles passing above. Full details are available on Saniflo BBA certificate 87/1889 detail sheet 9.
